We are thrilled to offer an AA HGV level 2 apprenticeship programme. We are looking for, self-motivated and enthusiastic individuals with a passion for driving and most importantly, a passion for great customer service. Our 13-month apprenticeship will support you in gaining your HGV C and C+E licence along with extensive training and development to support you on your driving journey. By month 4 of the programme you will be driving one of our Recovery Patrol vehicles and helping our members, you'll be the friendly face of the UK's largest motoring organisation. To our members, you'll be a superhero. Ready for anything, you'll be there for them, anytime and anywhere. When their vehicle just can't be started, you'll still get their day moving forward.

This is the job

Who we are

We are The AA. We're the UK's No.1 motoring organisation.

What does that mean? Well, in the time it's taken you to read this advert, we've helped 20 people get back on the road after a breakdown.

The Apprenticeship Programme

After a short AA induction at our Oldbury site, you will be straight into a 3-month intensive training period to prepare you for taking your HGV licence tests and driving safely on the road. We will give you all the support and resources you need from your AA manager, an experienced mentor and a dedicated development coach to help you gain your Level 2 Heavy Goods Vehicle apprenticeship qualification. The apprenticeship duration will take approximately 13 months and there will salary increases upon achieving your C+E licence.

What will I be doing?

This is a job that requires flexibility. It isn't a 9am-5pm operation; you'll work in a rotational shift pattern that can include evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays. You'll be ready to do a lot of driving to all kinds of locations, in all weathers, and work quickly and efficiently.

When we can't get an AA member's vehicle started after a breakdown, you'll be there for the next stage in the journey. You might work alone, but as soon as you get out of your HGV recovery truck, you'll be a partner to the customer. You'll help them feel safe, understood and taken care of. You'll calmly listen to their concerns, reassure them about what happens next, and decide on the next step. Which might mean, as well as taking their vehicle to a garage for repair, you'll travel on with them to their destination.

What do I need?

  • Ideally Grade 2 or Grade E and above in Maths & English GCSE

  • Full clean driving license

  • To take and pass a medical

Here are just a few of the benefits you'll have access to, as part of our team:
