Rights & Images Officer

The National Portrait Gallery houses a unique collection of all forms of portraiture of the people who have made or are currently contributing to British history and culture; the collection is the most comprehensive of its kind in the world. With around 2 million visitors each year prior to temporary closure for the Inspiring People project and a strong national and international presence through touring exhibitions and special projects, the Gallery is one of the country’s most important and popular galleries.

Rights & Images Officer
Full-time, 40 hours per week
£25,000 per annum
Hybrid (initially 2-3 days onsite per week)

With over 330,000 portraits in the Collection, the Rights & Images department supplies copies of these and licenses reproduction rights to a range of clients worldwide, including TV and publishing clients, as well as running a brand and merchandise licensing programme, handling on-site locations filming, and providing intellectual property advice, training and support to the Gallery.

The Rights & Images Officer will deal with requests to license images from the Gallery Collections, arranging permissions and supplying images to a wide range of clients world-wide, generating income for the Gallery via commercial licensing requests, and will provide support to the Rights & Images team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, articulate, responsible person who understands the aims and objectives of the Gallery, and is meticulous and well-organised with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people. Candidates should have experience of working in the image licensing industry and an understanding of intellectual property rights.
